Sol de Janeiro Coco Cabana Cream review

As skincare experts know, it is as important to put time and energy into your body care routine as it is for your face care. Whether you're experiencing dry skin from a change in season, looking to hydrate aging skin or wanting to prevent moisture loss, it can be difficult to find a daily moisturizer that fits your needs.

The Sol de Janeiro Coco Cabana Cream promises to treat dry skin with up to 72 hours of hydration, revealing smooth and moisture-rich skin. Sol de Janeiro claims this body cream can give users soft and touchable skin that gets softer with each use.

We tested the moisture benefits of Sol de Janeiro Coco Cabana Cream in order to compare it to the company’s claims. Here’s what we found.

How we tested Coco Cabana Cream

We tested the Coco Cabana Cream with a nurse who was searching for a lotion to hydrate her hands and skin. She wanted to see if the Coco Cabana Cream could alleviate the perpetual dryness that comes with frequent hand washing and working in a moisture-deprived environment. She used Coco Cabana Cream in place of her regular moisturizer.

How to use Coco Cabana Cream

We applied Coco Cabana Cream all over and found that the thick cream absorbed fairly quickly. Body creams are generally more moisturizing and thicker than body lotions because they're formulated with a lower percentage of water and a higher percentage of oil, making them more hydrating. However, both creams and lotions can be used in the same way.

Individual products should have directions for applying, but it's common to apply a body cream all over your skin once or twice daily. We liked that the Coco Cabana Cream left our skin feeling moisturized all day so we didn’t have to worry about reapplying later.

If you have dry skin, you can apply this body cream directly out of the shower before towel drying. Having an occlusive body cream on your skin's top layer locks in that water and helps the body cream absorb more deeply.

What are the benefits of Coco Cabana Cream?

Sol de Janeiro claims the Coco Cabana Cream is their most moisturizing body cream. This product uses quality ingredients inspired by Brazil, including coconut oil that is used to soften and condition the skin, açaí oil that has antioxidants to protect skin from environmental aggressors and cupuaçu butter that locks in moisture and supports skin elasticity.

In addition to providing hydration for up to 72 hours, the oils and CocoSugar Blend could potentially give you healthier skin with continued pampering over time.

What does Coco Cabana Cream do?

We found Coco Cabana Cream to be moisturizing, especially for dry skin. While it had a smooth, thick consistency, this lotion still absorbed quickly. However, we did notice a slightly sticky film left on our skin after drying.

We loved that this body cream lasted throughout the day, and we didn't feel the need to reapply. It left our skin feeling soft for hours after application. However, we didn't see any noticeable changes in the moisture of our skin over a longer period of time.

How does Coco Cabana Cream smell?

The smell is one of our favorite aspects of this cream. The main fragrance is coconut, but it also has a sweet undertone. Additional scents include warm vanilla, tropical orchid, creamy sandalwood and toasted praline. We found that the smell lasted on our skin all day.

Is Coco Cabana Cream a clean product?

The Coco Cabana Cream is cruelty-free and vegan-friendly. In addition to being sustainably-sourced, it's also gluten-free and paraben-free, and it is packed in recyclable packaging. Those looking for a clean formula will appreciate this product.

Best hydrating body creams

When looking for a body cream, it’s essential to consider your skin type and concerns. Those with extremely dry skin can benefit from a thicker cream, while some might be able to get away with a less moisturizing option. While some individuals love a bold fragrance, those with sensitive skin should opt for a fragrance-free lotion. If you’re looking for products similar to Sol de Janeiro Coco Cabana Cream, here are some excellent options.

Nécessaire The Body Lotion is a clean and fragrance-free choice great for those with sensitive and dry skin. It’s full of ingredients like niacinamide, vitamins A, C and E and omegas 6 and 9. Available at Sephora.

Summer Fridays Summer Skin Nourishing Body Lotion is vegan, cruelty-free and comes in recyclable packaging. Those with dry skin will appreciate the hydrating ingredients, including plant-derived butters, oils and ceramides. Available at Sephora.

Kiehl’s Crème de Corps is a fan favorite that uses squalane, cocoa butter, almond oil, avocado oils and aloe. It’s fragrance-free and comes in several sizes. Available at Sephora and Amazon.

Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow AHA Pink Dream Body Cream combines hydrating ingredients with chemical exfoliators to moisturize and soften your skin. Users love the watermelon scent. Available at Sephora.

Coco Cabana Cream cost

This moisturizer costs $20 for a 75-milliliter mini size or $45 for a 240-milliliter tube. Its price is considered mid-range, and while it's comparable to a few other body creams in the same price range, it's on the pricey side for the amount of product you receive.

Where to buy Coco Cabana Cream

You can buy the Coco Cabana Cream at Sol de Janeiro, Sephora and Dermstore. If you’d like to try it before committing, some Sephora stores may offer a sample.

Coco Cabana Cream pros

Sol de Janeiro Coco Cabana Cream is a moisturizing body cream that hydrates all day and keeps your skin smooth. We loved the coconut fragrance that lasted for hours after applying. It even seems to work well for those with sensitive skin.

Coco Cabana Cream cons

While many people love this fragrance, others say it's too strong or they dislike the scent. Some users have reported a slightly sticky, tacky residue after drying, which we also experienced. Despite being marketed as their most moisturizing body cream, Coco Cabana Cream's consistency and absorption are often disappointing when compared to Sol de Janeiro's most popular product, the Bum Bum Cream.

Is Coco Cabana Cream worth it?

Overall, we think Sol de Janeiro Coco Cabana Cream is a rich, moisturizing body cream, but not much more. We didn't find the claims of continued benefits to be valid after daily testing. That being said, if you don't mind spending a little money on your body cream, the lovely aroma of Coco Cabana Cream will leave you feeling sun-kissed and luxurious.
